A choice of qualified, skilled people

Due to the fast growth of Whitby's population, employers have access to a diverse, educated and experienced labour force. Whitby's population grew almost 15% between 2006 and 2016. Whitby's population is expected to grow to 193,000 by 2031. 

The percentage of Whitby residents (aged 25-64) who have a high school certificate, post-secondary diploma or degree is over 86% which is higher than the province in 2017.

Whitby has over 80,000 in its labour force.  Over 50% of Whitby residents commute for work.  This represents an opportunity for employers operating in Whitby.  Many companies have stated that there is a good supply of local talent. Also, hiring locally can lead to cost savings as the turnover of staff is usually lower.

Local employers benefit from access to recent graduates from the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT), Durham College and Trent University - Durham GTA.  Over 30 university and college campuses are readily accessible from Whitby.  Employment and Social Development Canada offers staffing support information to assist companies.
